The Inaugural New Year’s Eve Ball Drop was a complete success and a fantastic event for both young and old citizens of Yorktown Heights. The brain child of beloved Councilman Tom Diana and the partnership with The Yorktown Chamber Of Commerce and The Town of Yorktown, once again, proved an unstoppable force in making this event a smashing success. I saw both the very young / pre adults and adults reveling in the atmosphere provided by The Yorktown Chamber Of Commerce.
There was a DJ providing a mix of all types of music, A fantastic and beautiful Ball measuring at 5.5 feet in diameter, Thousands of people and a whole lot of good cheer, Bruce Apar our Master Of Ceremonies and who could forget the fantastic fireworks display at the stroke of midnight which lasted close to 10 minutes.
This unprecedented event came at absolutely NO COST to the Taxpayers of Yorktown thanks to the Yorktown Chamber of Commerce and our sponsors Tompkins National Bank, R+S Waste Services, Competition Carting, 3D Industrial Maintenance, Yorktown Auto Body, Yorktown Funeral Home, Thyle Construction and Signs Ink with a big shout out going to our restaurant sponsors Yorktown Pizza And Pasta, Don Tomaso’s and Piazza Grill.
Lastly a very special thanks to Michael Kane of Kane Contracting for the donation of the crane used to hoist the ball 75 feet into the air.
I feel privileged to live in a town with an active Government and Chamber both working toward providing family orientated events for all of the citizens to enjoy. Happy New Year to all!
